About Dreams and Hip-Hop
Synopsis:
Cabum a young rapper who has ambitions of following his
father’s footsteps to be a musician, arrives in Accra to seek his fortunes,
joining his old friends he embarks on a journey that will change his life. The
story subtly blends comedy drama and music to deliver its narrative, though a
fictitious story, the characters use their real names.
The Plot:
As a young child, Cabum only dreamt of being like his absent
father who was a musician. As a young
man though, he ended up being a mechanic. Having lived his whole life in Kumasi,
Cabum had made attempts to break into the music industry but had failed.
Now In his mid twenties, He decides to move to Accra to join
his friends to give it a last shot at becoming a musician.
He arrives in Accra and is immediately baptized by the hardship
of city life. Joining his friends, he begins his journey that gets him
entangled in drugs and fake pastors.
The film features 15 songs from various artistes most of
which are written, produced, arranged and performed by Cabum. It also features
cameos from various industry personalities.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The film was originally conceived as a new promotional tool
for artistes on the OM Music label. Cabum, Tijani Pepe, Luther, K’ Daanso and
Ken Ayiah using the Bollywood musical style as a reference.
Dreams and Hip-Hop was shot with little or no budget,
in-between commercial productions using available resources. The cast and crew
worked for almost 10 months, off and on, offering their free time and services to
complete shooting and post production.
